Hervey Bay Adopt a Family Project

Gwen & Richard Watt, Optometrists from Hervey Bay, chose the village of Conjola as an area to support, post the New Year’s Eve bushfires. They have rallied their Queensland community, and contacted the Rotary Club of Milton-Ulladulla to assist with this amazing programme.

The Watt’s have inspired other Rotary Clubs, both in NSW and interstate, along with some wonderful (not so local) businesses to join the programme, as donors. This has enabled support to be extended to include Conjola and South Coast Surrounds.

Families, or single individuals whose homes were burnt out or made uninhabitable, and / or who have lost their livelihood due to the fires, are now able to apply for this assistance which will be provided over the next 12 to 18 months. With enough donors now committed to the program, it is expected to be able to provide $100 per person, per month, for a special need, or just to (hopefully) bring back ‘some normality’. Obviously, the numbers supported will be dependent on the funds donated; some being ongoing.

Funds will be distributed by the Rotary Club of Milton-Ulladulla after careful consideration of the circumstances of the individuals and / or families.
